It was a great joy to gather again on Saturday 4th December 2021, meeting now familiar faces for another engaging and rewarding day, learning, praying, eating and sharing on this second of our Faith on Fire days together.
Ongoing faith formation for our catechists is a characteristic part of our days. In his letter on the Ministry of the Catechist earlier this year, Pope Francis says catechists should
"receive suitable biblical, theological, pastoral and pedagogical formation to be competent communicators of the truth of the faith"
and we are blessed to have inputs on Saturday from Fr John Harris, O.P., Fr Jim Doyle, and Fr Terence Crotty, O.P., all of whom are involved in the theological formation of seminarians.
For the afternoon "Skills and Resources" input, we were joined by Sr Rose Miriam Collins O.P. and Sr Caitríona Kavanagh O.P. of the Nashville Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia, based in Limerick. The Nashville Dominican community have a particular charism of teaching and both of the sisters are experienced catechists. They presented a workshop based on a beautiful resource they have produced (see image below) and on how they use this resource with families to help weave faith and prayer into the daily life of the home.
Fr John Harris celebrated the Eucharist with us and we finished the day by joining the Dominican Community as St Saviour's for sung Vespers - a beautiful and prayerful way to end the day.
